Case Study
“We have been working with Rapier in partnership at Cowley since
October 2013, and they have been involved in the recruitment process since day one.
I find Rapier’s recruitment team both thorough and professional in meeting our recruitment needs on a daily basis. Their commitment to us is second to none.”
– Imperial (Gillhuber) Site Manager.
Work commenced initially on a six month phased program with Rapier being selected as the site’s sole supplier.
Additionally some management and administrative staff were required on a temp-to-perm basis
Imperial (formerly Gillhuber) has offered logistics services along the supply chain for more than 50 years. They support the automobile, supplier and consumer-goods industry with individual transport and value-added solutions. In 2013 they were awarded a contract as logistics provider for a leading automotive manufacturer in Oxford.
When Imperial commenced the contract, their aim was to appoint a single labour provider who could fulfil all their requirements, which they considered to be the most efficient solution. Consequently, as well as recruiting new drivers and an onsite office team, the process also involved the TUPE transfer of thirty seven full time drivers.
Volatile volume means headcount requirements fluctuate significantly, day to day.
“In order to ensure the supply of drivers, we have carried out an extensive recruitment process.
This includes radio and online advertising, as well as incentive schemes with our existing and ex drivers to ensure we meet our client’s needs.”
– Rapier General Manager – Driving.
Rapier launched a successful recruitment campaign meeting the staged headcount requirements. Our HR team oversaw the TUPE process ensuring a successful transition for all those affected.
Rapier helped deliver a very collaborative volume planning process with the site including daily calls on headcount requirements, weekly volume planning and forecasts, run and load allocations and tight controls on tachograph and absence management processes.
This has translated into a service which has delivered a DOT figure of well over 99% for the year to date.
Rapier Employment continue to be the lead partner to the Imperial Logistics operation at Cowley, providing for all their recruitment needs on a full time basis, 24 hours a day.
“I like the regular shift patterns and hours this contract offers and I feel like part of a team with daily communications and support from both Rapier and Imperial”
– Rapier Driver.
